Risk assessments – beginning and end of the school day

We have detailed risk assessments that form the basis of our operations for the beginning and end of the school day. Safeguarding is our first priority and we always look for a parent, carer or responsible adult before releasing children out of the school building. This can result in pupils not immediately being released at 3:00 p.m. and we, therefore, ask parents to be mindful of this when planning timings to be off the school site.

Breakfast Club

Open from 8:00 a.m. Children may take part in breakfast club daily for a small charge. They receive cereal, toast and a drink and can play structured games until school starts at 8:45 a.m.

Access to School

All children and parents enter the school through the gates of Sterrix Lane.  Children should not arrive at school before 8.45 a.m. unless they are taking part in breakfast club. Children may enter the building at 8.45 a.m. when staff will be in their classrooms.  Attendance registers are taken promptly.

Extra-Curricular Clubs

We run a wide variety of after school clubs, details of which are circulated at the start of every half-term. Most clubs finish at 4.00 p.m.

Absence Procedure

If your child is ill, please telephone the school office on the day of their absence before 9.00 a.m. Please follow this up with a letter to your child’s class teacher.

Children may not take holidays in term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. A full copy of our policy can be found on the school website or may be collected from the school office.

The school monitors attendance daily and parents are contacted when a child’s attendance falls below 95%.

Our Education Welfare Officer asks for the names of children whose attendance falls below 85% and follows up on such cases.

Punctuality

Good attendance and punctuality are important at Litherland Moss.  Children should be settled in class at 8.55 a.m. when the register will be taken. Children arriving after this time will be marked late.  We are legally required to give the names of children who are persistently late to the Education Welfare Service
